Phoenix Rising is on a mission to battle addiction by supporting drug treatment courts; facilitating treatment; and raising awareness.

Criminal defense attorney Kerri Sigler and a dedicated team of volunteer Board members founded Phoenix Rising in June 2017 to combat the deadly addiction epidemic stealing the lives of so many of their clients, neighbors, friends, and family members.

Funding Drug Treatment Courts

The first task in fulfilling their 3-part mission was restarting Winston Salem's Adult Drug Treatment Court to provide addicts in the criminal justice system a sentencing option focused on treatment and recovery instead of punishment and jail time. Phoenix Rising forged a partnership with the City of Winston Salem; raised the necessary funds for the restart in less than a month; and launched the restart of Drug Treatment Court on December 1, 2017 - a mere 13 months after Sigler began the restart process. Thanks to your donations, Phoenix has been helping to fund Drug Treatment Court ever since.

Raising Awareness

After helping to restart the Drug Treatment Court, Phoenix Rising launched a series of Awareness Campaigns beginning with the video series #NoOneIsImmune, which told the stories of addicts and those left behind in addiction's deadly wake. Mothers, fathers, brothers, and sisters told stories of addiction, recovery, and loss that reached tens of thousands of viewers all over the country. Phoenix Founder and President Kerri Sigler continued the awareness trend with a year-long series of short courtroom talks about the dangers of addiction to prescription pills which were heard by thousands of Forsyth County residents. The taped version of her warning was viewed an additional 16,000+ times on social media. All these videos can now be viewed on the Addiction Awareness page of our website.

In 2018, Phoenix Rising launched RULE ONE: A Phoenix Rising Podcast and invited guests to discuss addiction from all angles. Guests have ranged from political candidates to treatment specialists to addicts themselves and topics have included Medication Assisted Treatment; chronic pain; DSS and termination of parental rights for addicts and their children; pill addictions from over-prescribed narcotics; and many more. You can listen to podcast episodes here on our website on the Rule One Podcast page, and subscribe to them on iTunes, and on Spotify.

Facilitating Treatment

In 2019, Phoenix Rising launched its Treatment Database: a central, searchable storehouse of addiction treatment facilities. Now, addicts and their family can navigate the otherwise fragmented world of addiction treatment options by selecting the criteria that meets their needs and receiving a list of the treatment facilities matching that criteria. Additional treatment facilities will be added on a regular basis. The Database can be accessed through the Find Treatment links throughout our website.

With your help, Phoenix Rising will continue to fund Drug Treatment Court, raise awareness, and facilitate treatment all as part of our mission to #FightTheGoodFight. Please donate to the cause today, because #ItTakesAVillage to save a life.

Join Our Fight!

In a short time Phoenix Rising has begun to make an impact in our community. We've helped to fund the Drug Court in Winston-Salem, and we've recently launched our public Treatment Facility Database. This database will allow users to search for the treatment that is right for them based on a range of factors such as age, housing status, and health insurance.

We want to continue providing resources to support those most impacted by addiction and substance abuse. In order to do this, we'll need your help. You can make a tax deductible donation to Phoenix Rising of Winston-Salem, Inc. Phoenix Rising is a 501(c)3, and your donation will go toward supporting the Drug Courts initiative, educating our community and helping to end this crisis that is affecting families every day.
